The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are less forgiving. The beautiful scenery of Fremont County and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This stretch of Wind River in Wyoming is 3 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III section. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these
hotels fill up quick. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near. The campgrounds here at Wind River are pretty good. This is a short paddling stretch so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. This
is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you won't find many other paddling places.
Briefly about the general area: All through the summer months here at Wind River, high temperatures ordinarily get into the 80's. All through the moonlight hours it's regularly in the 40's. Daytime highs through the wintertime are in the 30's, and winter nights come with lows in the 10's to Wind River. Byrd Draw is a pleasant
location to check out in the vicinity of Wind River, and if you're here you can take a hike along the Ross Lake Trail. Wind River gets very little rainfall; of all the months in a year June is the one with the most rain, and February is the month with the least moisture.
