This stretch of Wind River in Fremont Hot Springs County is 12 miles long and has been rated as a class I-III section by American Whitewater. The scenic beauty of Fremont Hot Springs County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this
state than those in other states, so keep in mind that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. There are no other sections to paddle along Wind River than the Boysen Dam to canyon mouth section. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you
make reservations in advance you're all set.
Briefly about the general area: Wind River is frequently a relatively dried out site; the month of May is the wettest with most of the rain while February is commonly the driest month. A perfect site to check out close to Wind River is Teeter Canyon. If you're interested in cool geologic features, try Windy Point; if the weather is pleasant, you can go for a hike along the Johnson Trail. All through the warm days of summer at Wind River highs are usually in the 80's while overnight lows are
commonly in the 50's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 30's, and after the sun is down through the wintertime temperatures at Wind River drop into the 0's.
