The scenic beauty of Wyoming and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This stretch of Yellowstone River in Park County is 20 miles long and is a class III-V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with not too many other places for that. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Wyoming is often more difficult than elsewhere, so don't forget that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. There's camping available near Yellowstone River.
You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The river winds through the Absaroka Range and you get great scenery. There are a few other sections in this
river system that can be paddled as well. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. You can enjoy this stretch more if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your camping stuff.
Briefly about the general area: Yellowstone River gets very little rain; May is the month that gets the most rain while February is generally the driest month. The Lower Blacktail Trail is a great hiking trail next to Yellowstone River. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 80's to Yellowstone River with nighttime
lows in the 50's. Highs through the wintertime are regularly in the 30's; after the sun is down through the wintertime temperatures at Yellowstone River sink into the 10's.
