We recently tried this trip, but it was a fail for the water level was extremely low. We attempted it anyway thinking it might have been just a shallow patch, but after roughly 1.5 miles of constant in and out of the kayaks to carry them through shallow spots, we decided to stop before getting to deep into the woods. Luckily there is a subdivision being built where the put in is. We were able to drive to the back of the subdivision to pick |
up our kayaks. It would have been a great trip had the water level been a little higher. We did this trip after a good rain, but it wasn't good enough. Since then we have monitored the water level, and it has been consistently
| low. If attempting this trip, you'll know shortly after the first bend in the river if you can actually remain in the kayaks for this trip. Says Suzy
The natural beauty of Alabama and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream will make you feel great. This stretch of Cahaba River is 7 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-II section of whitewater. Getting some good exercise and just hanging | |

out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. This stretch is mid length, it's good length for a morning trip. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots
in Alabama are harder than the national norm, so better not forget that rivers here are less forgiving. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty
of places for that. There are many good hotels to choose from, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The put-in is not too far from Birmingham-Hoover, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page.
