The wonderful Jackson County scenery and the playfulness of the water beats anything. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less manageable. There's camping     available near Flat Rock / Coon Creek. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling rivers. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Rt. 117 to Lake Guntersville section is one of them. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Scottsboro, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more.   On this section you do get some distance, good for a one day paddling trip. Briefly about the general area: All our national parks are great places to go to, and Russell Cave National Monument is no exception. Taking a little tour to nearby Kings Bend is a fine idea, and some out of the ordinary geology is available here, High View is right here. Coming to this river is always a good idea. There's good hiking along the River Mont Cave Historical Trail, and people from Flat Rock love to come here. All the water falling down from the sky makes Flat Rock / Coon Creek a wet site.
