Elmore Tallapoosa county, Thurlow Dam to boat ramp section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS II-IV     1.5 miles
If you're coming from Tuskegee it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The scenic beauty of Alabama and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This section of Tallapoosa River in Elmore Tallapoosa County is 1.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-IV section of whitewater. You might be into
whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you won't find many other paddling rivers. The average Alabama whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other
states, so don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This section is quite short so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. For all you camping people
there are campgrounds nearby. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the Thurlow Dam to boat ramp section is one of them.
