CLASS II(III) 3.9 miles

Be careful on the upper run this year there are several trees across the creek and one right at head level in a challenging spot. As for the lower run from High Falls to lake gville, enter at your own risk. It is, as always, very unpredictable.
If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. |
The put-in location is a short drive from Albertville, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming
| from far and near. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This section of Town Creek is 3.9 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II(III) section. This is a bit of a short stretch so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. Since you're on this site you | |
|
are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of spots for that. The nature scenery of Alabama and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons
enough to come here to paddle. The State Route 227 to High Falls stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system.
Briefly about the general area: When you're here at Town Creek it's always fun
to have a look at Lake Guntersville State Park, and you're sure to come across some smiling people from Groveoak here. High Falls is a beautiful spot to go to while you're at Town Creek.
