CLASS IV     6.5 miles
  The starting point is not too far from Anchorage, as you can see on the road map further down. The wonderful Alaska scenery and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. This stretch is mid length, it's good length for a morning trip. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Alaska tend to be more challenging than the national
    average, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many runs in this state are not easy. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. Whether you're whitewater
rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good spots. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The Seward HigHighway at outlet of Lower Summit Lake to Seward Highway at Hope Junction stretch of Canyon Creek is 6.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class IV section.

Briefly about the general area:
There are fine places to discover along the Carter Lake Trail; don't leave Canyon
 
Creek without first going for a hike along the Bird Creek Trail. Canyon Creek gets very little rainfall. The wettest month of the year is typically September, that's the one that rains the most while April is the month with the least amount of precipitation. All through the warm days of summer at Canyon Creek temperatures are commonly in the 60's. Throughout the dark hours of summer temperatures descend down into the 50's. Daytime highs all through the winter are in the 10's with temperatures at Canyon Creek dipping down into the 0's through winter nights.
