  Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Alaska is often tougher than elsewhere, so don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. This stretch of Chitina River in Alaska is 55 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II section of whitewater. The scenic beauty of Alaska and the playfulness of the water attract people from near and far. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want
    to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. There are no other stretches to paddle along Chitina River than the Nizina River to Chitina stretch. A stretch of this length
does require some preparations, so it looks like you will be camping out. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. When you're paddling down a Wrangell Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. For all you camping people there  
are campgrounds nearby.

Briefly about the general area:
During your tour to Chitina River you'll meet some people from Chitina for sure. Chitina River is pretty dried out typically. Of all the months in a year July is the one with the most rain; the driest month is April. Summertime highs at Chitina River typically tend to be in the 60's. For the duration of the moonlight hours it's mostly in the 40's. All through the winter highs are typically in the 0's, and through the dark hours in the wintertime at Chitina River temperatures sink to the-20's.
