  The average Alaska whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. The nature scenery of Alaska and the water flowing gracefully down Chitistone River are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This stretch of Chitistone River in Valdez-Cordova Census Area Borough is 9 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater
    as a class II-III section. The beautiful Wrangell Mountains scenery is an added bonus. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Glacier Creek to Nizina River stretch is one of them. Not too many
hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you donít have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, suitable for an afternoon trip. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a pretty small number of paddling rivers. And of course, there are  
campgrounds nearby.

Briefly about the general area:
Peavine Bar is a great place to spend some time at. During the warm days of summer highs here at Chitistone River reach the 70's while night lows are commonly in the 40's. High temperatures throughout the wintertime are normally in the-10's; night lows through the winter for Chitistone River tend to be in the-30's. Not much rainfall falls here at Chitistone River. The month of July is the wettest with most of the rain, and March is when it's the driest.
