Alaska whitewater, Drop Creek

Valdez-Cordova Census Area county, Upper gravel bar to Copper River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS II     19 miles
This stretch of Drop Creek in Valdez-Cordova Census Area Borough is 19 miles long and it is classified as a class II section by American Whitewater. The natural beauty of Alaska and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Alaska is often tougher than elsewhere, so better not forget that the rivers in this state are less manageable. If you have the time you can make this a
two day trip, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. No matter if you're
whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you won't find a large number of other spots. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The beautiful Alaska Range scenery is an added bonus. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well.
