Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Alaska tend to be more challenging than the national average, so keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. The wonderful Anchorage Borough scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream will make you feel great. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive     a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This river system is full of great paddling sections, the Upper section is just one of them. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so go ahead and pack your camping stuff. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. Briefly about the general area: Going for a hike on the Bird Creek Trail is always a magnificent adventure. When   you're here at Eagle River it's always fun to visit Chugach State Park, and you're sure to run into some friendly people from Chugiak here. If you come to this river you will have a good time for sure. All through the days of summer, highs generally are in the 60's at Eagle River. For the period of the dark hours of summer temperatures drop down into the 50's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 10's while the cold winter nights at Eagle River are in the 0's. It is very dry here at Eagle River generally. The month of September is the wettest with most of the rain, and the driest month is April.
