The natural beauty of Valdez-Cordova Census Area Borough and the water flowing gracefully down Kennicott River have people coming here. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the McCarthy Road to Nizina River section is one of them. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have     to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Alaska are harder than the national norm, so keep in mind that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. On this section you do get some distance, good for a one day paddling trip. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The beauty of the Wrangell Mountains is a great plus for this river. Briefly about the general   area: A delightful site right next door to Kennicott River is Fivemile Gulch. Summertime brings highs in the 60's to Kennicott River with nighttime lows in the 40's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 0's, and night lows during the winter for Kennicott River tend to be in the-20's. Kennicott River is pretty dry generally. July is when you get the most rain here while April is generally the driest month.
