  The scenic beauty of Valdez-Cordova Census Area Borough and the water flowing gracefully down Kuskulana River make the trip here worthwhile. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. If you
    have the time you can make this a two day trip, so pack your camping stuff. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. No matter if you're whitewater
rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of places for that. Whitewater paddling here in the Wrangell Mountains is a great experience. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. This stretch of Kuskulana River is 19 miles long and has been rated as a class IV+ section by American Whitewater.

During your journey to Kuskulana River you'll meet some people from Chitina for sure. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 60's to Kuskulana River with night lows in the 40's. High temperatures throughout the winter are normally in the 0's; after the sun is down through the wintertime temperatures at Kuskulana River drop into the-20's. Around Kuskulana River you don’t get a lot of rainfall. Through July this area sees the most rain while April is commonly the driest month.
