Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling rivers. A good workout and just being out on the river for     a while are great attractions for lots of people. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many runs in this state are not easy. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Mendenhall Lake to Riverside Drive section is one of them. The natural beauty of Juneau Borough and the water flowing gracefully down Mendenhall River beats anything. This stretch is mid length, you can easily run it on an afternoon. There are nice comfortable hotels here, but if   you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Briefly about the general area: There's nice hiking along the Spaulding Trail, and a good place is Mendenhall Valley. Good hiking is available along the West Glacier Trail; at Mendenhall River you always meet someone from Juneau. This is a great river. A visit to close by Hut Point is very relaxing; why not head up to Eaglecrest and strap some skis to your feet. A day at scenic Young Beach close to Mendenhall River is a glorious thing to do. Throughout the months of summer at Mendenhall River temperatures are generally in the 60's while nighttime lows are generally in the 40's.
