The wonderful Alaska scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream have people coming here. If you're coming from Juneau it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Alaska are often more challenging than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. |
Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of places for that. On this section you do get some distance, it's perfect for a one day trip. If you're a camper you can camp
| at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. There are some good hotels near the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This stretch of Montana Creek in Alaska is 4 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-III+ section.

the slopes of Eaglecrest is just what you need, and taking a little tour to close by Mendenhall Peninsula is a great idea. Montana Creek is a site with many visitors from Juneau, and why not take a refreshing hike along
the West Glacier Trail. This river is so wonderful. Young Beach is in the vicinity of Montana Creek and is a delightful beach to visit, and hiking is a popular thing to do around Montana Creek; Spaulding Trail is a good
local trail. All through the days of summer highs here at Montana Creek get into the 60's, and through summer nights temperatures are in the 40's.
