This section of Nenana River in Alaska is 8 miles long and it is classified as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. The wonderful Denali Borough scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream attract people from near and far. This river system is full of great paddling
    sections, the Carlo Creek to McKinley Village section is just one of them. There's camping available near Nenana River. If you're coming from Anchorage it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're not familiar
with the area there's a road map further down the page. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. The river winds through the Alaska Range and you get great scenery. This is a pretty decent length section, it's good length for a morning trip. Since you're on this  
site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way in this general area you won't find many other paddling spots. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Alaska are often tougher than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners.

Briefly about the general area:
Nenana River is a location that is rather arid typically. Most of the rain falls during July; the driest month of the year is April. All through the warm days of summer at Nenana River temperatures are commonly in the 60's while overnight lows are typically in the 40's.
