Alaska whitewater, Nenana River

Denali county, McKinley Village to Riley Creek section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS III     10.5 miles
The starting location is a short drive from Anchorage, as you can see on the road map further down. This section of Nenana River in Denali Borough is 10.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III section. The natural beauty of Denali Borough and the playfulness of the water have people coming here. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good places for that
around here. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so pack your camping stuff. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. No need to look hard for
hotels, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. There are so many sections to paddle in this river system, the McKinley Village to Riley Creek section is just one of many. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Alaska is often more difficult than elsewhere, so better not forget that many runs in this state are
not easy. The Alaska Range scenery is wonderful.
