The starting location is a reasonable drive from Anchorage, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The beautiful scenery of Denali Borough and the water flowing gracefully down Nenana River are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of spots for that. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, |
but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. This stretch is short so better bring some good walking shoes. The average Alaska whitewater
| rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. The Riley Creek to Twin Rocks stretch is one of many paddling stretches in this river system. This section of Nenana River is 3 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III+ section. Whitewater paddling here in the Alaska Range is a great experience. | |

Briefly about the general area: Near Nenana River you discover Iceworm Gulch which is a wonderful place to visit. Summertime
highs at Nenana River regularly tend to be in the 70's, and through the night it cools down to the 50's. During the winter highs are generally in the 0's, and winter nights come with lows in the-20's to Nenana River. Nenana
River gets very little rain. The month of July is the wettest with most of the rain; the driest month is April.
