Alaska whitewater, Nizina River

Wrangell-St. Elias Natl. Park county, Kennicott River to Chitna River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS II-III     10 miles
The Kennicott River to Chitna River section of Nizina River in Alaska is 10 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-III section of whitewater. The nature scenery of Alaska and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are
not as easy as elsewhere. This section has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so go ahead and pack your camping stuff. The wild scenery of the Wrangell Mountains is great. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're
willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the Kennicott River to Chitna River section is one of them. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Whether you're whitewater
rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good spots.
