Alaska whitewater, Sanctuary River

Denali county, Denali Road to Teklanika River section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS V+     7.2 miles
This section of Sanctuary River is 7.2 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class V+ section. The wonderful Alaska scenery and the playfulness of the water attract people from near and far. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Alaska are often tougher than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are less forgiving. A bit of exercise and just being out
on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. The river winds through the Alaska Range and you get great scenery. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night,
but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. There's camping available near Sanctuary River. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are not so many other good spots for that around here. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. The put-in is not too far from Anchorage, as you can see on the road map further down. This stretch has has
enough mileage, good for a one day paddling trip.
