The Denali Park Road Bridge to Stampede Road stretch of Savage River in Denali Borough is 16 miles long and has been rated as a class V section by American Whitewater. The average Alaska whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so don't forget that the rivers in this state are less manageable. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so pack your camp stove. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. area: At Savage River through the summertime highs are in the 70's. Once the sun is down it plunges down to the 50's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 0's while the cold winter nights at Savage River are in the-20's.
Savage River is pretty dry generally. July is the month that gets the most rain; April is the month with the least moisture.
