  The Teklanika Campground to Stampede Road section of Teklanika River is 19.6 miles long and is a class V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. If you're coming from Anchorage it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in
    mind that rivers here are less forgiving. The wonderful Alaska scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. There's camping available near Teklanika River. Whether
you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with not too many other spots for that. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the Teklanika Campground to Stampede Road section is one of them. The beautiful Alaska Range scenery is an added bonus. This section is long enough for an overnight  
trip if you take your time, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more.

Briefly about the general area:
Teklanika River is a location that is pretty dry regularly. The month of July is the wettest with most of the rain; April is when it's the driest. Summertime highs at Teklanika River usually tend to be in the 70's. Throughout the dark hours of summer temperatures plunge down into the 50's. High temperatures through the winter are normally in the 0's, and after the sun is down throughout the wintertime temperatures at Teklanika River descend into the-20's.
