  The average Alaska whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so don't forget that many runs in this state are not easy. The Richardson Highway crossing to Lower Tonsina stretch of Tonsina River in Near Copper Center Borough is 7 miles long and has been rated as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. The natural beauty of Near Copper Center Borough and the sparkling of the sunlight on the
    water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The campgrounds here at Tonsina River are pretty
good. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, suitable for an afternoon trip. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you won't find a large number of other spots. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Richardson Highway crossing to Lower Tonsina stretch is one of them.
