The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Safford, as you can see on the road map further down. The wonderful Apache County scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water beats anything. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The beauty of the Mogollon |
Rim Mountains is a great plus for this river. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are not so many other good rivers for that around here. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river
| system, there are a few others too. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Arizona are often tougher than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that the rivers in this state are less manageable. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so go ahead and pack your camp stove.

local attraction; don't leave Black River - East Fork without first going for a hike along the Chitty Canyon Trail Thirty Four. This river is so great. Go for a hike on the KP Trail Seventy. At Black River - East Fork all
through the summertime highs are in the 70's. When the night sets in temperatures fall down into the 40's. The winter brings highs down to the 40's, and night lows at Black River - East Fork throughout the winter commonly descend into the 10's.
