Arizona whitewater, Gila River

Pinal county, Kelvin to Ashurst-Hayden Dam section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

The beautiful scenery of Arizona and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. If you're coming from Payson it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you donít have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. For all you camping people there
are campgrounds nearby. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Kelvin to Ashurst-Hayden Dam section is one
of them. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature have people coming from far and near. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are not so many other good places for that around here. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Arizona are harder than the national norm, so keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners.
