If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. No matter if     you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling places. There's camping available near Oak Creek. A stretch of this length does require some preparations, so make sure you pack enough food along with your camping gear. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. The natural beauty of Coconino/ Yavapai County and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. Lodging is available near the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Briefly about the general area: A visit to Red Rock State Park when you're here at Oak   Creek is never a bad idea, and if you're going to from Cornville, you won't be the only one. Dead Horse Ranch State Park is a delightful site to visit on a gorgeous day, and you can have a good hiking adventure along the Wilson Mountain Trail. This river is so perfect. A journey to Montezuma Castle National Monument is recommended, and while you're here you can take a hike along the Vultee Arch Twenty Two. At Oak Creek you don’t see much precipitation. During August this area sees the most rain; June on the other hand is the driest. Through the months of summer here at Oak Creek, high temperatures generally get into the 80's.
