The put-in location is a short drive from Prescott, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Arizona is often tougher than elsewhere, so better not forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. The nature scenery of Yavapai County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. Since you're on this site |
you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your
| camp stove. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. This river system is full of great paddling stretches, the Clarkdale to Camp Verde stretch is just one of them. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground.

about the general area: Don't miss out on a journey to Montezuma Castle National Monument since you're here at Verde River, and Verde River is not far at all from Cornville. Wilbur Canyon is a great site to explore,
and as expected, everyone loves Fort Verde State Historic Park. At this river you will never have a bad time. There are splendid spots to explore along the Gaddes Canyon Trail, and Dead Horse Ranch State Park is a good place.
Go for a hike on the Mooney Trail. Not much precipitation falls here at Verde River. The wettest month of the year is mostly August, that's the one that rains the most, and June is the month with the least moisture.
