Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the rivers in this state are not very demanding. The starting location is a short drive from Fort Smith, as you can see on the road map further down. This stretch is mid length, you can easily run it on an afternoon. The beautiful scenery of Arkansas and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. |
The Camping area to Highway 220 stretch of Ben Doodle Branch in Crawford County is 7.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class IV-V section. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in
| nature are great reasons to come. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. The campgrounds here at Ben Doodle Branch are pretty good. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. | |

of year. Yep, outdoors entertaining stuff truly is bountiful here in the Boston Mountains. The cheerful people of Chester like to hang out nearby, and Devil's Den State Park is a good site to stretch your legs a bit. A river
like this is too good to miss. All the water falling down from the sky makes Ben Doodle Branch a wet site. The month of May is the wettest with most of the rain, and the driest month of the year is January.
