The FS 1219A to Richland Creek stretch of Bobtail Creek is 2.75 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III-IV+ section. The natural beauty of Searcy County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in |
your car. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Arkansas you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that lots of rivers in this state are good for beginners.
| The Boston Mountains scenery is wonderful. This is a pretty short section so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good rivers for that around here. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. The | |
|
put-in is not too far from Harrison, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby.
Briefly about the general area: The Hideout Trail offers hiking
at its best, and Short Bobtail Hollow is another pleasant site to stop by nearby. Just can't get enough of the Boston Mountains. Why not take a refreshing hike along the Pedestal Rocks Trail, and there are plenty of people
from Witts Springs here. This river is so great. All the water falling down from the sky makes Bobtail Creek a wet site. During May this area sees the most rain, and January is when it's the driest.
