The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Harrison, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The nature scenery of Arkansas and the cool fresh water beats anything. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the rivers in this state are not very demanding. The Boxley to |
Ponca stretch of Buffalo River in Arkansas is 6.1 miles long and is a class II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. This stretch is mid length, you can easily run it on an afternoon. And of course, there
| are campgrounds nearby. Whitewater paddling here in the Boston Mountains is a great experience. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good spots for that around here. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. | |
|
Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came.
Briefly about the general area: You'll meet a lot of folks from Compton here, and nearby you stumble
on wonderful spots like Big Hollow. But wait, there's more fun stuff to do in the Boston Mountains. Eden Falls is an inspiring site to stop by while you're here. There are good spots to discover along the Alum Cove National
Recreation Trail, and you can go for a hike on the Turkey Trail. All through the warm days of summer highs here at Buffalo River get into the 90's with night lows in the 60's.
