Arkansas whitewater, Buffalo River

Newton Searcy county, Carver to Woolum section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS I-II     15.3 miles
The starting point is not too far from Harrison, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The Carver to Woolum section of Buffalo River in Arkansas is 15.3 miles long and is a class I-II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The wonderful Arkansas scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the trip here worthwhile. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're
willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This section has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so pack your sleeping bag. Whitewater rafting
and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers in this state are not as hard as elsewhere. There are plenty of other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. The river winds through the Boston Mountains and you get great scenery. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature
are great reasons to come. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling places.

Briefly about the general area:
Don't leave Buffalo River without first checking out Copper Bluff; Buffalo River is a place with many visitors from Western Grove. Be careful coming to the Boston Mountains, you might not ever wanna return home again. Hiking along the Hideout Trail is delightful fun, and Buffalo River is close to Ed Clair Hollow which is unquestionably worth checking out. This river is so good. Have a good hiking adventure along the Pedestal Rocks Trail; if you're hooked on cool geologic highlights try Clair Bluff.
