If you're coming from Harrison it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down. The Woolum to Tyler Bend section of Buffalo River in Searcy County is 15.3 miles long and it is classified as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good places. This is not |
the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set.
| The Boston Mountains scenery is wonderful. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. The natural beauty of Arkansas and the playfulness of the water beats anything. The campgrounds here at Buffalo River are pretty good. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so keep in mind that a lot of the rivers in this state are suitable | |
|
for beginners. This stretch is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so pack your camp stove.
Briefly about the general area: Rocky Hollow is a great spot to check out close by, and if you're
here you will meet lots of people from close by Saint Joe. That right there is lots of cool things already but it goes on, the Boston Mountains has it all. No need to travel far to stop at out of the ordinary stuff like
Cash Bend; Red Bluff is a great site to go to while in the region. At this river you will never have a bad time. All the water falling down from the sky makes Buffalo River a wet spot.
