The scenic beauty of Howard and Polk County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This section of Cossatot River is 6.25 miles long and it is classified as a class II-IV section by American Whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to     be more forgiving than the national average, so don't forget that rivers in this state are less demanding. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good rivers for that around here. The beauty of the Ouachita Mountains is a great plus for this river. There's camping available near Cossatot River. The Ed Banks Road to Highway 278/4 stretch is one of many paddling stretches in this river system. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature   are great attractions for lots of people. This stretch is mid length, good for a one day paddling trip. Briefly about the general area: You're sure to come across some wonderful people from Umpire here, and nearby Devils Hollow is a glorious place to go. And if that's not sufficient there's a lot more cool stuff to do in the Ouachita Mountains. Cossatot River State Park is a splendid place to visit on a beautiful day. Cossatot River is a wet spot that gets a great deal of rainfall. May is the month that gets the most rain; the driest month is January. During the summertime highs here at Cossatot River get into the 80's, and during the night it cools down to the 60's.
