The nature scenery of Howard/ Sevier County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. This is a pretty decent length section, it's     good length for a morning trip. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The Gilliam Lake to County Road 70 stretch of Cossatot River in Arkansas is 9 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-II section. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. If you're coming from Texarkana it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of places for that. Not too many   hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The wild scenery of the Ouachita Mountains is great. Briefly about the general area: The fine folks of Gillham like to hang out close by, and Cossatot River State Park is both tremendous and scenic. Now, you may think that's lots but there's even more amusing things to do here in the Ouachita Mountains. Cossatot River commonly gets a good deal of precipitation. The wettest month of the year is frequently May, that's the one that rains the most, and January is when it's the driest.
