Arkansas whitewater, Haw Creek

Johnson county, Along Highway 23 section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS II-III+     4 miles
The starting point is not too far from Harrison, as you can see on the road map further down. The scenic beauty of Johnson County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water have people coming here. The Along Highway 23 section of Haw Creek in Arkansas is 4 miles long and it is classified as a class II-III+ section by American Whitewater. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in Arkansas are often more forgiving than
in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers in this state are not as hard as elsewhere. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling places. Great exercise and spending
some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here. On this section you do get some distance, it's good length for a morning trip. When you're paddling down a Boston Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if
you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby.

Briefly about the general area:
The Grassy Point Trail offers hiking at its best, and Ozark National Forest is a good place. So much exciting stuff to do in the Boston Mountains, not enough time. Haw Creek is a place with many visitors from Hagarville, and Haw Creek is right by the Turkey Trail. This is such a wonderful river. You might want to pay a visit to Bowman Hollow if you're here at Haw Creek. All through the warm months highs here at Haw Creek get into the 90's; the nighttime is a tad cooler of course, regularly in the 60's.
