The scenic beauty of Arkansas and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream have people coming here. The CR1000 to FS181 section of Illinois Bayou - North Fork in Pope County is 14 miles long and it is classified as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. The Boston Mountains scenery is wonderful. If you're coming from Russellville it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road map |

And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. You can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so pack your sleeping bag. The Mail Trail is a delightful hiking trail in the neighborhood of Illinois Bayou - North Fork, and while you're here you will meet lots of folks from nearby Hector. Life's too short to enjoy all the enjoyable things in
the Boston Mountains. On a glorious day at Illinois Bayou - North Fork you can take a hike along the Cowan Hollow Trail, and close by Cowan Hollow is a perfect place to go.
