CLASS II-IV 8.5 miles
|
| |
This stretch of Left Hand Prong is 8.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-IV section. The wonderful Arkansas scenery and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The starting location is a short drive from Harrison, as you can see on the road map further down. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Arkansas you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, |
so don't forget that quite a few of the sections in this state are pretty easy. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Great exercise
| and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you'll find a large number of good spots. This is a pretty decent length section, suitable for an afternoon trip. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Headwaters to Victor Road section is one of | |
|
them. The Boston Mountains scenery is wonderful.
Briefly about the general area: Left Hand Prong is not far at all from Pelsor, and great hiking is available along the Sulphur Trail. Now, you may imagine that's
a load but there's even more cool stuff to do here in the Boston Mountains. Go for a hike on the Boyd Trail. Left Hand Prong sees pretty high levels of rain. Most of the rain falls throughout May while January is the month
with the least amount of precipitation. All through the months of summer, highs mostly are in the 90's at Left Hand Prong. Summer night lows dip down to the 60's.
