The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master in this state than those in other states, so better not forget that many of the rivers in this state are not very demanding. The nature scenery of Montgomery County and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. There's camping available near Ouachita River. The beautiful Ouachita Mountains scenery is an added bonus. This section is quite short |
so no need to bring snacks. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This section of Ouachita River is 2.9 miles long and is rated by American
| Whitewater as a class II section. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Hot Springs, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The USFS Dragover stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. Briefly about the general area: At Ouachita River you always meet someone from Sims; a good spot like Ouachita National Forest is too great to leave out. Life's too short to enjoy all the fun stuff in
the Ouachita Mountains. The warmest time of the year at Ouachita River arrives with high temperatures in the 90's while overnight lows are ordinarily in the 60's. The winter comes with highs in the 40's, and nighttime lows
at Ouachita River through the wintertime ordinarily drop into the 20's. The high level of rain makes Ouachita River a quite wet place. The month of May is the wettest with most of the rain, and January is the month with the least moisture.
