Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that lots of rivers in this state are good for beginners. The Dierks Lake to Highway 70 stretch of Saline River in Sevier / Howard County is 5.6 miles long and is a class I-II section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. |
There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The put-in location is a short drive from Texarkana,
| if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of spots for that. This is a pretty decent length section, good for a one day paddling trip. The beauty of the Ouachita Mountains is a great plus for this river. There's camping available near Saline River. Briefly about the general area: At Saline River you always meet someone from Umpire. Through the summer months
at Saline River temperatures are commonly in the 90's, and through summer nights temperatures are in the 60's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 50's with temperatures at Saline River dipping down into
the 20's throughout winter nights. Saline River gets lots of water. Throughout May this area sees the most rain, and the driest month is January.
