The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Harrison, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The Gum Branch to ELFB stretch of Stepp Creek is 1.25 miles long and has been rated as a class III-IV+ section by American Whitewater. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you |
want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling rivers. Whitewater
| paddling here in the Boston Mountains is a great experience. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Arkansas is often easier than elsewhere, so keep in mind that lots of rivers in this state are good for beginners. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. | |

This is a very short stretch so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times.
Briefly about the general area: Watson Hollow is close to Stepp Creek and is a tremendous place, and there
are great places to look at along the Alum Cove National Recreation Trail. Be careful coming to the Boston Mountains, you might not ever wanna go home again. Here at Stepp Creek there are plenty of people from Deer, and
you can go for a hike on the Turkey Trail. A river like this is too good to miss. Ozark National Forest is a glorious place to go if you're at Stepp Creek.
