Arkansas whitewater, War Eagle Creek Madison Washington Benton county, Highway 23 to War Eagle Mill section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS I-II     38 miles   The water is easy, with limited tree hazards. Lots of spectacular bluffs, many overhanging the water. Lots of shade. No phone service, so forget about plotting the navigation on GPS (or calling for help.) Sometimes you might glimpse river otter or beaver. From the 'Rocky Ford' west of Withrow Springs on Madison 8500 (or 40,) to the Hwy 45 bridge, it took 8 hours of lazy but steady paddling in Kayaks, with no long stops, no fishing. No one else     was boating on the river the entire day on a Saturday! I estimate it is 11 or so miles of slow water, which makes for a very long day. In mid June, there were many areas where we had to get out and portage (or scoot) over shallow spots that with just 6 inches more of water would have been very nice to float. Two weeks earlier, we never got out at all except to negotiate a log-jam. As always, beware of snakes. On one portage, an actual large Timber Rattler caught my attention only because he tumbled a small stone as he hurried away from me. He was big and close and had he remained still, I might have stepped on him. We also saw a few very small Copper Heads.   Not enough to make us worry or keep us from swimming to cool off. Says Dana Reynolds I opened a canoe rental n camping on war eagle, down half mile from 45 bridge, at smallmouth rapids.  There's a game n fish access up river also, that's very secluded, that we shuttle to n you can float down. Pulled in 25 14inch to 18inch browns in the last 2 weeks. All in the 1st mi from 45. Says D Kamp The mill has stopped letting people use their property for put in and take out.  Gar hole access, 6 or 8 miles above the mill has been closed down.  How can anyone float this river now?
