  If you're coming from Sacramento—Arden-Arcade—Roseville it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This stretch of American River - Middle Fork in California is 7.1 miles long and is a class I(II) section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside California you might find the rivers here
    a bit more challenging, so keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. This stretch has has enough mileage, suitable for an afternoon trip. The
beautiful Northern Sierra Nevada scenery is an added bonus. There are so many stretches to paddle in this river system, the former Greenwood Bridge to Mammoth Bar stretch is just one of many. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good spots. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The beautiful scenery  
of Placer / El Dorado County and the water flowing gracefully down American River - Middle Fork beats anything. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature are sure to keep you coming back for more.

Briefly about the general area:
Auburn State Park is a perfect location to stretch your legs a bit, and if you want to check out some attention-grabbing stuff, check out Long Point. If you want a pleasant time in the great outdoors just come on up to the Northern Sierra Nevada. At American River - Middle Fork you always meet someone from Cool. Places like Marshall Gold Discovery State Park are perfect to explore; while you're here, you might as well pop by Sardine Bar.
