California whitewater, American River - North Fork

Placer county, Tadpole Creek to Euchre Bar section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS IV-V     12.3 miles
The wonderful California scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water attract people from near and far. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. The Tadpole Creek to Euchre Bar section of American River - North Fork in California is 12.3 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater
to be a class IV-V section. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Truckee-Grass Valley, there's a road map further down the page
with more info on that. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. The wild scenery of the Northern Sierra Nevada is great. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. If you hurry you can run this stretch in
a day but why not make it an overnighter, so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of rivers for that.

Briefly about the general area:
Going for a hike along the Italian Bar Trail will let you absorb the natural beauty of this vicinity. Government Spring is always fun to check out; you could always discover Italian Bar. This is such a great river. While you're here at American River - North Fork you can take a hike along the Burnett Canyon Trail, and Corral Spring is a magnificent local attraction.
