The river itself dosen't pose too many problems to the skilled padler, but the rugged isolation cane give you a bad day in a hurry. I've made this run many times but I am always prepared, make sure you have a WFR with you, in the crux of the gorge (three miles) there's no getting a seriously injured person out without aid. The Euchre Bar to Colfax-Iowa Hill Road section of American River - North Fork in Placer County is 14.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class IV-V section of whitewater. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so better not forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. The put-in   is not too far from Truckee-Grass Valley, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. There are so many sections to paddle in this river system, the Euchre Bar to Colfax-Iowa Hill Road section is just one of many.
