The scenic beauty of El Dorado County and the water flowing gracefully down American River - South Fork are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Truckee-Grass Valley, as you can see on the road map further down. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. There |
are plenty of other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good places. You can pitch a tent or park your RV
| at a nearby campground. This section is quite short so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. The average California whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so better not forget that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. The Riverton to Peavine | |
