If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many runs in this state are not easy. The put-in is not too far from Truckee-Grass Valley, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. This stretch of American River - South Fork in California is 9.4 miles long and has been rated as a class IV-V |
section by American Whitewater. This stretch is mid length, suitable for an afternoon trip. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good places for that
| around here. The nature scenery of El Dorado County and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. Nevada is a great experience. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp.
Briefly about the general area: If the weather is great here at American River - South Fork, you can go for a hike along
the Belix Trail, and a short journey to Deadman Spring is always worthwhile. And that's not everything there is to do here in the Northern Sierra Nevada. Eldorado National Forest is a pleasant location to check out; you'll
possibly meet some people from Pollock Pines here. This river is a great place to visit. On a good day at American River - South Fork you can take a hike along the Grizzly Canyon Trail, and American River - South Fork is near Randolph Canyon which is unquestionably worth stopping at.
