  The beautiful scenery of California and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream will make you feel great. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in California are often tougher than in other states, so keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. The starting location is a short drive from Sacramento—Arden-Arcade—Roseville, as you can see on the road map further down. This stretch of American
    River - South Fork is 20.5 miles long and it is classified as a class II-IV section by American Whitewater. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here.
You can enjoy this stretch more if you take your time, so why not pack your camp stove too. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. There are so many sections to paddle in this river system, the Route 193 to Folsom Lake section is just one of many. The  
beautiful Northern Sierra Nevada scenery is an added bonus. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good spots.

Briefly about the general area:
A visit to Granite Canyon is always fun. Marshall Gold Discovery State Park is a fine place to go if you're at American River - South Fork, and at American River - South Fork you always meet someone from Lotus. Coming to this river is always a good idea. Don't leave American River - South Fork without dropping by Auburn State Park. A normal amount of precipitation falls here at American River - South Fork.
