California whitewater, Arroyo Seco River

Monterey county, Arroyo Seco Picnic Area to Route G16 bridge section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS III     14.5 miles
The nature scenery of Monterey County and the playfulness of the water will make you feel great. The Arroyo Seco Picnic Area to Route G16 bridge stretch of Arroyo Seco River in California is 14.5 miles long and it is classified as a class III section by American Whitewater. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so keep in mind that the rivers in this state are
less manageable. The starting location is a short drive from Salinas, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the
river for a while have a lot of people coming here. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. When you're paddling down a Santa Lucia Range river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. Since you're on this site you are probably
into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so go ahead and pack your camping stuff.

Briefly about the general area:
Don't leave Arroyo Seco River without first going for a hike along the Marble Peak Trail. You'll meet a lot of people from Greenfield here, and you can go for a hike on the Horse Pasture Trail. At this river you will never have a bad time. If you're here, you might as well check out Horse Canyon, and Limekiln State Park is a pretty spot any time of year.
