The Hydro to Highway 44 section of Bear Creek in California is 9.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class IV(V+) section. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. This stretch     has has enough mileage, suitable for an afternoon trip. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with not too many other spots for that. Through the summer months here at Bear Creek, high temperatures regularly reach the 90's. Summer night lows descend down to the 60's. Throughout the winter highs are mostly in the 50's with temperatures at Bear Creek dipping down into the 30's through winter nights.
